Character Analysis: What One Character Can Show
Traditional character divination is often described as mysterious. What this method does is the plainer layer: take a character apart and set out its strokes, radical, element and meaning. It neither predicts nor casts.
What This Method Looks At
Each character you give is looked up in the dictionary and listed with its Kangxi strokes, radical, element, pinyin and basic meaning, together with the total strokes of the whole text. Characters missing from the dictionary are marked separately; no similar character is substituted.
It is a checkable glyph reference card, not a chart and not a hexagram.
What You Need to Prepare
- One character or a short word, 1–20 characters long.
- A direction you care about (optional): the strokes, element or meaning of one character, or a structural comparison of several.
What It Is Good For
- Checking a character’s Kangxi strokes and element classification.
- Comparing the structure, radical and meaning of several candidate characters.
- Seeing whether a rare character is covered by the dictionary.
- Checking stroke conventions before naming or writing copy.
What It Is Not Good For
- Judging fortune or predicting success and failure: that is not what a glyph card does, and the result offers no such conclusion.
- Inferring a whole life or a health condition from one or two characters.
- Analysis that needs birth information: that belongs to BaZi, Zi Wei and similar methods.
- Long texts over 20 characters: split them into short words and look them up separately.
What the Result Looks Like
- The total Kangxi stroke count of the whole text.
- Per-character cards: character, Kangxi strokes, element, pinyin, radical, structure and meaning.
- A list of characters not covered: anything missing from the dictionary is listed separately, with a note that nothing was substituted.
Its Limits
Glyph data comes from the dictionary, and dictionaries differ in how they classify strokes and radicals; this method uses the Kangxi convention throughout. Meanings are basic senses only, without extension or speculation. The card takes no part in fortune judging and is not a conclusion about any real-world problem.
Where to Start
If you only want to check a character, go into the process here and give the text; the system will list the glyph data character by character. To compare several characters, give the short word. In the Zhanbu Mizhi process, characters not covered are stated plainly rather than silently replaced.
